Orlando Magic’s Otis Smith gave permission for Dwight Howard’s agent to speak to New Jersey Nets

Dan Fegan, the agent for Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, dismissed reports his client had illegal contact with the New Jersey Nets, saying Howard had received permission to explore potential trades.

Magic general manager Otis Smith confirmed to ESPN The Magazine on Friday night that he granted permission to Fegan to speak to the Nets about a deal involving Howard, who has asked twice in the past week to be traded, according to sources.

Zach Lowe: Bynum may be Orlando’s best option

…amid all of the rumors — legit, floated and otherwise — one stands out: The Lakers are willing to send center Andrew Bynum, Jim Buss’ golden boy, to Orlando in a deal for potential 2012 free agent Dwight Howard, according to Ken Berger of CBS Sports…
…Let’s be clear: If you can get Dwight Howard, and the primary cost in on-court talent is Andrew Bynum, you make the deal in a second. There are other costs, to be sure. The Magic will want more than Bynum, which might mean losing forward Lamar Odom and finding a third team — at additional cost — to supply a first-round draft pick or some other asset the Magic might want. Orlando could force forward Hedo Turkoglu’s toxic deal on the Lakers. The new rules on extend-and-trade deals would cost Howard a year and some cash, just as it would point guards Chris Paul and Deron Williams, but Howard starts out with a higher base salary than either of those players.

Dwight Howard stands out at Comic-Con. Which is not that easy to do…

Dwight Howard wanted more say in December trades

When the Orlando Magic pulled off a pair of blockbuster trades with the Phoenix Suns and Washington Wizards in December, Dwight Howard was napping. No one on the Magic asked his opinion. No one asked if he was OK with the trades.
Howard found out when the rest of us did: once the trades were completed.
Turns out, Howard had a problem with that.
