Orlando Magic officials handed Dwight Howard a microphone just before the team tipped off its home opener Monday night against the Houston Rockets at Amway Center.

Howard thanked the announced sellout crowd for their patience during the lockout.

“We’re going to have another great season,” Howard concluded. “Let’s go, baby!”

Zach Lowe: Bynum may be Orlando’s best option

…amid all of the rumors — legit, floated and otherwise — one stands out: The Lakers are willing to send center Andrew Bynum, Jim Buss’ golden boy, to Orlando in a deal for potential 2012 free agent Dwight Howard, according to Ken Berger of CBS Sports…
…Let’s be clear: If you can get Dwight Howard, and the primary cost in on-court talent is Andrew Bynum, you make the deal in a second. There are other costs, to be sure. The Magic will want more than Bynum, which might mean losing forward Lamar Odom and finding a third team — at additional cost — to supply a first-round draft pick or some other asset the Magic might want. Orlando could force forward Hedo Turkoglu’s toxic deal on the Lakers. The new rules on extend-and-trade deals would cost Howard a year and some cash, just as it would point guards Chris Paul and Deron Williams, but Howard starts out with a higher base salary than either of those players.

"I think when the season starts – whenever that may be – he should have his jersey put up for what he did not just the team, but for the city,” Howard said. “We all know how great Penny has been for the game of basketball."

Dwight Howard’s All-Star Charity Game
Good news for Orlando basketball fans! Dwight Howard is hosting a charity basketball game at UCF arena on Sunday, November 13th. The event plans to bring together Orlando Magic players past and present with proceeds going towards “Plant Seeds, Cultivate Them, and Watch them Grow”, which supports youth education, health & activity, character development, and social responsibility around the globe.
Now that’s out of the way, here are the confirmed players for Sunday’s game:
Dwight Howard (of course)
Steve Francis (!)
Penny Hardaway (!!)
Vince Carter
Gilbert Arenas
Brandon Bass
Trevor Ariza
Carlos Arroyo
Earl Clark
Drew Gooden
Rashard Lewis
Mike Miller
Chris Duhon
Daniel Orton
Jameer Nelson
Ryan Anderson
Jason Richardson
Quentin Richardson
DeShawn Stevenson
Dwight also invited Shaquille O’Neal, Courtney Lee, and a few others who have not yet confirmed. All in all, this is a pretty dream lineup and would be worth the admission just to see Penny Hardaway and Gilbert Arenas run the floor together. The only way this could get better is if Shaq confirms (potential Shaq and Penny reunion OMG) or if the Fat Shawn Kemp makes a surprise appearance.

Esquire interview with Dwight Howard…

SR: You’ve got a smile that other human beings respond to. It’s a beautiful smile, even during games.

DH: When I’m smiling and having fun, that’s when you should have a problem. If I’m out there frowning and looking mean, that’s when you know you’ve beat me — because I’m not having fun. I’ve been playing basketball since I was three. Everybody since I was three tried to tell me to stop smiling. Even my dad. My dad apologized to me when I was ten. He said, “Dwight, I remember I told you to stop smiling. I like when you smile. Keep doing it. I’m sorry for ever telling you not to smile.” I said, “Dad, look, I’m young. This is what brings me joy. This is my sanctuary. This is my church. This is where I show God that I’m thankful for life.” I’m going to show it when I play basketball, when I’m on the streets, when I’m having fun. When I’m anywhere, I’m going to show God that I’m thankful just for life. I’m living out my dream. This is what I want to do.
