Dwight Howard goes for 24 and 18 against Amar’e as Orlando beats the Knicks.
Dwight Howard’s Magic beat Amar’e Stoudemire’s Knicks in a matchup of two of the top big men in the NBA.
Last night the Orlando Magic took on the New York Knicks in what was a highly touted match-up between two Eastern Conference contenders with two of the best big-men in the game. Much of the focus coming into this game revolved around the battle between the Magic’s Dwight Howard and the Knicks’ Amar’e Stoudemire, and while both superstars would lead their respective teams in points, it was Howard who would come out on top in this much anticipated battle.
Stoudemire’s quickness usually compensates for the Knicks’ lack of size, but it didn’t against Ilgauskas. That could pose a problem Thursday night against the Magic’s Dwight Howard, who is considerably younger, stronger and more athletic than Ilgauskas.
“He’s definitely a physical specimen down in the post,” Stoudemire said of Howard. “He’s a great defensive player. Offensively, he’s a little limited so we’re going to use that to our advantage.”
Howard certainly doesn’t maneuver like Hakeem Olajuwon but he can be Shaq-like if he gets deep post position. In the latter scenario, Howard can easily turn on a defender and produce his own poster-worthy plays.
